Glandore Ensuite & Bathroom Renovation
Our clients south us out wanting to renovate their mid-century Glandore property’s ensuite and bathroom. The homeowners, busy professionals with two beloved pets, were seeking an update on the original 1950s spaces. They longed for open, bright, and practical bathrooms that would suit their lifestyle. A complete overhaul was needed to address the dark, dated facilities and lack of functionality.
The couple had clear priorities for their renovation. First and foremost, they wanted a spacious and bright ensuite that would become a tranquil retreat for daily use. At the same time, they needed a more functional second bathroom for visiting friends and family, so guests wouldn’t have to pass through their bedroom to access it.
Storage and privacy were also a concern for them. Despite having recently installed a new closet in the walk-through robe, it lacked sufficient storage and the roller doors with windows didn’t offer enough privacy from neighbouring homes. Ultimately, they desired spaces that were simple, filled with natural light, and designed with their long-term future in mind.
Clever Layout Solutions for Modern Living
One of the primary challenges we faced during the ensuite and bathroom renovation was working with the limited square footage of the existing space. The layout of the back-to-back bathrooms presented particular difficulties. We needed to create a spacious and comfortable ensuite for the couple while ensuring the second bathroom remained fully functional for guests.
We focused on maximising every inch of space, using creative layout solutions and ensuring the final design met both functional and aesthetic needs without compromising on comfort. For the ensuite, we designed a connected vanity that seamlessly flows into the shower area, contributing to a clean and clutter-free aesthetic. The second bathroom, though compact, was thoughtfully re-arranged to include all necessary amenities while ensuring a functional and comfortable layout.
We included a Solatube skylight to flood the space with natural light, complemented by a Ventair extraction fan with infrared heat and downlights to enhance the comfort of the room. To ensure privacy in the walk-through robe, we replaced the roller doors with walls, and side windows to maintain an airy feel whilst keeping the space private. These additions also allowed for improved natural light and ventilation.
A Blend of Softness and Functionality
The newly renovated ensuite features a soothing palette, dominated by soft green Aquarella tiles and crisp white walls. We chose brushed nickel fixtures for a contemporary yet understated look and warmth of wood textures for the custom cabinetry which balances the cool tones of the tiles and benchtop.
In terms of future-proofing, we incorporated practical features such as a twin shower column with a hand-held shower and a diverter slider rail, alongside Sunray floor heating for year-round comfort. A fixed frameless Kewco shower screen ensures easy cleaning, while multiple storage solutions—including a bespoke vanity, glass shaving cabinets, and a shower niche—keep the space functional and uncluttered.
In the second bathroom’s design, we used a clean white and soft grey palette, making the space feel open and bright. Lastly, to add warmth, we chose a floating vanity in light wood tones combined with black hardware for a striking contrast against the neutral backdrop. Altogether, this mix of classic and contemporary elements creates a timeless feel, ensuring both form and function in the space.
A Transformation that Enhances Daily Life
The ensuite and bathroom renovation had an immediate positive impact on our clients’ lives. They are thrilled with the outcome, feeling that the spaces were truly future-proofed and perfectly tailored to their lifestyle. The revamped spaces made their morning routine far more efficient. Additionally, the couple appreciated the increased privacy and natural light brought into the home, especially in the ensuite and second bathroom.
