Glandore Bathroom & Laundry Renovation

This lovely family approached us wanting to revitalise the bathroom and laundry of their 1930s Maisonette in Glandore. As busy professionals with adult children, they wanted to enhance the functionality of these spaces while refreshing the look.

The homeowners plan to remain in the home for many years to come and were ready to update the spaces for the next stage of their lives. They no longer used the bathtub and found the rooms lacked bench space and storage. Their wishlist included a larger shower, improved lighting, and easy-to-clean.

Improved layout & function

Our designer began by rethinking the layout to make the most of the existing footprint. Both wet areas shared a wall with the neighbouring property, leaving no opportunity for windows. To bring light into these spaces, three Solatube skylights were added to the hallway and bathroom. This simple change had a big impact, flooding the spaces with soft, natural light.

The clients wanted to keep the WC separate. We made it a neat, practical space with built-in cabinetry above the toilet, keeping everyday items out of sight.

In the bathroom, the true centrepiece is the custom vanity, designed entirely around the homeowner’s vision of comfort and care. It includes a generous benchtop, five large compartments with internal drawers, and an open shelf tower with a discreet power point. At one end, a thoughtfully integrated seating area allows space to sit while applying lotion, brushing teeth, or simply taking a moment to unwind. This feature also supports aging in place with thoughtful design.

A large walk-in shower sits alongside a full-width ledge that keeps products neatly stored. On the opposite wall, four heated towel rails (one for each family member and guest) add comfort and function.

Before and After

In the laundry, we introduced an L-shaped layout to maximise space and improve flow. Overhead cabinets reach the 2.9-metre ceiling, adding generous storage without crowding the room. A tall broom cabinet with built-in power stores vacuums and tall items neatly out of sight, while a hidden hamper and Meribox drawers support everyday organisation. Below the benchtop, a washer–dryer combo and functional sink create a tidy, hard-working zone customised for the family’s daily needs.

Light, space, & comfort

This bathroom balances warmth and contrast through layered materials and refined textures. Timber tones link back to the rest of the home, while vertical deep-blue feature tiles add depth and draw the eye upward. Below, terrazzo-look porcelain tiles provide a soft base.

We designed a seamless ledge that runs along the shower wall, connecting the vanity and shower areas with subtle storage. Above the vanity, a round mirror softens the geometry, while a vertical open shelf adds greenery and offers everyday practicality.

The vanity stands as the focal point of the room. Constructed from Polytec melamine boards in Florentine Walnut with Kethy handles, it is elevated off the floor to enhance the sense of openness and lightness. A Staron benchtop sits above, providing a sleek, low-maintenance surface that breaks up the timber and complements the overall palette. Internally, Blum soft-close drawers deliver practical storage.

In the WC, we continued the terrazzo-look tiles to maintain visual flow, wrapping the floor and rear wall. Full-height cabinetry in Florentine Walnut provides concealed storage above the in-wall cistern, while open timber shelves allow for personal touches. Clean lines and brushed stainless accessories give the space a tidy, balanced finish.

Calm, considered spaces

The renovation has transformed how the spaces feel and function. The bathroom now feels open and inviting, despite having no windows. Storage is streamlined, lighting is soft, and every detail has been considered for ease and comfort. A Sol wall light—hand-blown from Swedish clear glass—adds a final layer of charm.

The clients were thrilled with the result and praised our team’s thoughtful design, clear communication, and professional care throughout the project.
