Contemporary Master Suite Renovation
Our clients are a semi-retired couple living in Adelaide’s inner south. After two decades in their Goodwood home, they found that their master bedroom, ensuite, and walk-in robe no longer met their needs. They contacted us to future-proof their home, seeking our expert advice and comprehensive services in design, management, and construction.
They envisioned a light-filled, calm space that would harmonise with the rest of their contemporary home. For the colour scheme, they preferred a soft, neutral palette. It was essential to retain the existing footprint while incorporating a functional wardrobe with ample storage for all their outfits and accessories. Most importantly, they needed the space to accommodate their changing mobility needs.
Incorporating accessible design principles
Our designer started by improving the layout for an easier transition between spaces and creating a wide turning circle space for future wheelchair/walker use. Consequently, we removed an existing non-load-bearing wall in the walk-in robe and repositioned the ensuite door.
Catering to our client’s needs, our team incorporated accessible design principles in this ensuite renovation. This includes placing all fixtures along the northern wall and installing grab rails near the toilet and in the shower area. Additionally, we chose lever mixer tapware and push-to-open joinery for ease of use.
Contemporary nature-inspired Master Suite
We selected a nature-inspired palette of beige and warm white with accents of timber to create a calm and peaceful master ensuite. To maximise the available space, we designed wall-to-wall joinery around the bed with sufficient hanging space and Hafele racks for trousers and ties as well as two integrated Hafele pull-down wardrobe lifts. In addition, we placed top hinge cabinets above the bed with power points inside for charging devices and adjustable reading lights. Lastly, we included a large shoe storage with open shelves specially made to showcase our clients’ wide variety of footwear.
Across from the wardrobe, we designed a vanity table to ease our client’s morning routine. This vanity has multiple power points, a sophisticated LED mirror together with personalised velvet-lined drawers for all her jewellery and accessories.
For the bathroom, we combined Navona bone floor-to-ceiling tiles with wooden finishes and accents of brush nickel. We built this space with a generous walk-in shower with no set down, wall-shaving mirrors and a Boston Oak double wall-hung vanity with ergonomic drawer storage and over height toilet. Moreover, we included a sensor LED strip lighting under the vanity and niche providing low-level lighting for nighttime safety.
As a result of the renovation, our clients have a beautiful, light-filled, and accessible master suite that accommodates to their changing mobility needs. They are delighted with the results, particularly appreciating the integrated wardrobe features, elegant vanity table, spacious walk-in shower and ergonomic fixtures. We have future-proofed their home so they can continue to enjoy their Goodwood residence for years to come.
