Japandi Style Bathroom & Laundry Renovation

Our clients reached out to us to renovate the bathroom and laundry of their Cowandilla home. After three decades, these well-used spaces were ready for a complete refresh.

With retirement approaching, the owners were thinking about how their home could better support them in the years ahead. Although they had researched extensively, they were unsure how to bring their ideas together. Therefore, they sought guidance from the right team to realise their vision.

They wanted their bathroom to become a calm, relaxing space they could truly enjoy. Warm earthy neutrals, natural greens, timber and tactile finishes appealed to them, creating the peaceful, spa-like feeling they envisioned.

Comfort and practicality were equally important for the future. They wanted more storage to keep everyday essentials organised and a generous bathtub for unwinding at the end of the day. Meanwhile, their compact laundry needed practical storage and better functionality to make everyday tasks easier.

Functional Spaces with Smarter Storage

The existing split-bathroom layout already worked well for the family, so we retained this arrangement. Separate zones can be used simultaneously, offering greater privacy and flexibility within the home’s only bathroom.

Our design specialist then focused on making better use of the existing footprint. A floating vanity and shaving cabinet provide generous storage while keeping everyday essentials organised.

On one side, the frameless shower screen maintains an open feel, while a recessed niche keeps shower essentials close at hand. Opposite, a sculptural bathtub creates a comfortable place to unwind at the end of the day.

The separate WC features an in-wall toilet system, keeping the compact space clean and uncluttered. Importantly, its location also gives the family and visitors greater flexibility when the bathroom is occupied.

Across the hallway, the compact 1.3-metre laundry now works much harder. Overhead and under-sink cabinetry maximise storage, while stacked Miele appliances make efficient use of the limited footprint.

Japandi Style Bathroom Design

The renovated bathroom embraces Japandi style, combining natural materials, earthy colours, organic forms and simple detailing. We carefully selected each finish to create the calm, spa-like atmosphere the couple envisioned.

We selected Salvia Zellige tiles for their natural tonal variation, introducing soft sage, muted olive and deeper earthy greens. Continuing these tiles into the WC and laundry splashback creates a cohesive connection between all three spaces.

To balance the green tones, we paired matt white wall tiles with Pietra Di Marais Grigio flooring throughout. Prime Oak Woodmatt adds natural warmth through the bathroom vanity and timber-look laundry benchtop. Brushed bronze tapware completes the bathroom palette, complementing the timber and earthy green tones.

In the laundry, custom Polytec joinery continues the clean, understated design while providing practical storage. Stainless steel tapware offers a durable choice for this hardworking space. Meanwhile, stacked appliances maximise the compact footprint and reduce unnecessary bending when transferring clothes between the washer and dryer.

Together, consistent materials, natural finishes and thoughtful details connect all three spaces, creating a calm and cohesive design.

The renovation created comfortable, functional spaces perfectly suited to the owners as they approach retirement. Improved storage and thoughtful features will support their everyday needs for many years to come.

Most importantly, the family were delighted with their new spaces and particularly impressed by the quality of workmanship. Their refreshed bathroom and laundry are now ready to be enjoyed for many years to come.
