Flagstaff Hill Laundry & Bathroom Renovation

Our clients approached us seeking a laundry and bathroom renovation for their two-storey brick home in Flagstaff Hill—a property they had cherished for decades. Built in the early 2000s and positioned on a scenic slope, the home offers sweeping views of the city skyline.

With retirement on the horizon, the couple felt it was the right time to modernise their home. They wanted spaces that were not only fresh but also practical, easy to maintain, and well-organised for the long term. The design also needed to accommodate visiting family and grandchildren, creating a home that felt both welcoming and comfortable for everyone.

The project focused on the ground floor, which includes the laundry, bathroom, guest bedrooms, and access to the pool. Although the laundry was spacious, it lacked storage and functional design. The couple were especially concerned about the washer and dryer being too low, making them harder to use as they planned for ageing in place. This space became the perfect starting point for enhancing comfort and usability.

Future-Proof Laundry Design

Future-proofing and safety were top of mind, particularly in the laundry. Our design team took their needs and wants and created solutions for these spaces. We started by incorporating plenty of cabinetry on both sides as well as overhead storage and dedicated zones for the broom, vacuum and mops. Rather than having to bend for the appliances, we elevated the washer and dryer, reducing the range of movement required and making the room more suitable for long-term use. Blum pull-out shelves now sit neatly beneath, making loading and unloading easier.

We included multiple power points and generous bench space to accommodate all tasks, while tucking away the modem and home automation system behind sleek cabinetry, keeping technology close but out of view. To support their hobbies, we also built storage for sewing accessories, a built-in bin and added a hidden hanging rail behind the overhead cabinet doors—perfect for keeping laundry out of sight. With every detail considered, the laundry now feels bright, open and wonderfully efficient.

Family-Friendly Bathroom Comfort

Next, we moved to the main bathroom. Our clients were happy with the existing layout, so we preserved it while dramatically enhancing the style and comfort of the space. We replaced the corner shower and small bathtub with a much larger built-in bath and added an overhead shower fitted with a frameless screen and hinged panel. This setup creates easy access for grandchildren while keeping water neatly contained. We selected soft, neutral floor-to-ceiling tiles to expand the sense of space and bring light into the room. The previous cream tones had felt dated, so our fresh palette of whites and warm greys made an immediate impact. Satin nickel and chrome tapware added a polished touch, blending practicality with timeless design.
