Staron Design Awards – 2014: Edition 2 Winner, Alex Norman, Brilliant SA

Congratulations to Alex Norman from Brilliant SA who has won the Residential category of the Staron Design Awards – 2014: Edition 2.

Alex’s design of a kitchen and bathroom renovation for a lovely Californian bungalow perfectly captures the timelessness of the home as well as imbues it with a hint of modernity that brings the home to life.

The clients had specifically requested materials that were beautiful as well as easy to live with, and practical. To enhance the design, special features were included to give both rooms a ‘wow’ factor.

As the main gathering space within a large open plan area, the kitchen was designed for entertaining. The 3-metre long island benchtop is specified in Staron Tempest Confection that complements the room’s neutral palette. To create the bold statement required by the owners, Acrylic Couture in Malachite Green graces the front of the island and the splashback, illuminated with LED lighting strips. With its unusual finish and deep, rich colours, it draws immediate attention from visitors.

Staron was also used in the luxurious bathroom. A clean, fuss-free vanity top in Quasar White is non-porous and easy to clean while the shower wall and base were installed as a continuous surface with no grout or join lines. The Acrylic Couture shower screen makes an elegant feature in keeping with the design of the home.

The judges felt this project was a worthy winner, saying “the end result is one that produces a sense of excitement and enjoyment for all who visit the home and for those who live within it. The innovative use of both colour and material provide endless enjoyment to the clients. The carefully-selected flooring, wall cladding and benchtops in Staron Solid Surface enable the clients to live a ‘fuss free’ lifestyle and provide a neutral surround for the overall space. Congratulations to Alex for creating such a unique design that suits all the needs of the client”.
